Oklahoma Gardening

Full Show (4513) 9/29/18

John Stephens, an OSU-Stillwater Horticulturalist, joins Host Casey Hentges to build a succulent planter from a wine bottle. Extension Food Specialist Barbara Brown quenches our thirst with a blueberry green tea. We continue our tour of gardening in northwest Oklahoma. We stop at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Area near Cherokee, Oklahoma to visit with Steve Alspach, a soil scientist with the USDA-NRCS. He tells us about the soils in that part of the state and explains how such a large salt-encrusted area came to be in Oklahoma. We enjoy a secluded shady garden in Guymon that is made for entertaining. Also in Guymon, we visit Helms Nursery, a family owned business that specializes in growing beautiful plants made for the rigors of northwest landscapes.
